New Uniform Policy Begin in 2011/2012

A Uniform Committee consisting of teachers, students and parents, identified the needs of Saint Mary School regarding uniform pieces, researched uniform companies, and made recommendations about which pieces they felt would be important to include in the new uniform for Saint Mary School. These recommendations were reviewed by school administration. As a result of their efforts, a new uniform and new uniform policy have been developed.

It is important to mention that objectives, not personal taste or personal preferences, were the driving force behind the creation of the uniform. The objectives of the uniform committee were:
 Create a uniform that unites the student body in appearance and promotes respect
 Integrate current uniform pieces with the new standards, to reduce expense for families and ease the transition to the new uniform
 Design a uniform that values both form and function, allowing students to focus their school efforts on learning and conduct while reducing uniform-centered disputes

The new uniform standards are outlined below and are effective beginning in the 2011-2012 school year. All uniform pieces are available through Dennis Uniform Company; we will not be contracting with any additional vendors. Dennis will hold a uniform sale at Saint Mary School on June 29th from 5-8 pm, in the lunchroom. At this time they will conduct uniform fittings, do on-site logoing of uniform tops, and have a full inventory of approved uniform pieces, available for purchase. Dennis uniform pieces will also be available for purchase at their store in Mount Prospect and on a custom SMS webpage through the Dennis website. Detailed information will be available for families in the June packet.

Current uniform pieces, that are approved for transition in the 2011-2012 school year only, are also outlined below. If you have approved uniform pieces or transition pieces that no longer fit your child and would like to donate them to the FSO as part of a used uniform sale we will gladly accept them; please send these items to the school store. Used uniform pieces will be available for purchase in the school store on June 13th during Packet Pick-Up and on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the school year.

Finally, the Big Shoulders organization is happy to accept all of our retired uniform pieces, including the logoed pieces. They have several schools that will be able to benefit from our old uniform pieces. If you are interested in donating retired uniform pieces to Big Shoulders, please send these pieces to school on or before June 13th. There will be a donation box in the office for Big Shoulders.

It is our hope that the new uniform will be a source of pride for our students as they see and present themselves as bright, capable, and important parts of the Saint Mary School community.
