Letter To Parents from the School Board

posted Jan 18, 2011, 8:00 PM by Mike Tuntland

Dear Saint Mary Parents:

Last fall, we had tentatively scheduled the date for the annual State of the School meeting for Thursday, January 20. We have decided to postpone the date of this important annual meeting until we have an opportunity to make further progress on our principal search for Saint Mary School, which is our highest priority at this time.

To that end, we have finalized the selection committee for the principal search. As we communicated at the Parent Meeting in December, our plan was to form a committee comprised of individuals representing key stakeholders in our school – parents on the School Board, faculty, and leaders in education administration – to help ensure the selection of the best possible candidate.

Representing the School Board and the parent community on the selection committee will be Kathleen Byrd, Bill Zadell and Ross Zimmerman. We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Joy Barr and Mr. Ron Lewis have graciously agreed to represent the Saint Mary School faculty on the committee.  Last but not least, we are delighted that Mrs. Lynne Strutzel, the Principal at Carmel Catholic High School, has agreed to volunteer her time and talent as our sixth and final committee member.  Mrs. Strutzel’s vast experience as a proven leader, principal and educator will be an invaluable asset to our team.

The search process is underway, and we are working with the Chicago Archdiocese Office of Catholic Schools (OCS) to evaluate qualified candidates. The OCS begins the process by soliciting candidates through multiple channels and assessing the applications that are received. The OCS then interviews the qualified candidates and narrows the group based on the specific needs and requirements for a Saint Mary principal candidate. Our search committee will then thoroughly interview the candidates and assess their qualifications.

While we want to move swiftly, we also realize the critical importance of taking time to ensure we identify and find the best possible candidate to lead our school well into the future. We greatly appreciate your patience as this search gets further underway.

In the meantime, we will communicate back with you once a new date is set for the State of the School Meeting. As always, if you have any questions, please contact any of us on the School Board.
