Earth Month Challenge - Are you saving electricity?

Don't forget to keep trying to save electricity and energy through your house.
If you cannot find your energy guide,  you can view it here!

Over the Easter Holiday, start working on next week's tasks!

Take pictures or videos and post them to our Facebook page or email them to the ComEd site emc@comed.com

1. Have a barbeque!

2. Play a board game instead of a video game.

3. Open the ComEd April email and look at the smart Apps!

4. Program your thermostat at home so that the heat doesn't run when no one's home.

5. Install switchable power strips so the video games can be turned off!

What Are Things We Already Do At School?

Even before the contest began, Saint Mary School has always participated in energy savings.

Our HVAC (heating/air-conditioning) units in the computer labs, primary grades, and library area enter "unoccupied mode" once school is done.  This decreases the heating set point, and raises the air conditioning set point, and shuts down the ventilation fans for the night.

Our computer network is also programmed to shut down all non-essential machines starting at 4pm daily.  This ensures that all computers are turned off even if users forget to turn them off.

Something we've changed?

Over spring break, our buildings and grounds staff were busy cleaning the building, but also took some time to install occupancy sensors. These sensors automatically shut off the lights when no one is in the room for a period of time.  They are currently located in room 105, the copy room, and our health office.
